Why Twitter is Rubbish

I have left twitter again.

It is the only thing that makes me want to throw my iPhone across the room in frustration.

First of all, it is a waste of time in that I find myself tweeting about what a wonderful time I’m having when I should just be having a wonderful time.

Secondly, although the voyeuristic look into others lives may be fascinating, it is ultimately boring.  I really am not interested in the minutiae of someone else’s sleep patterns, how their kid is getting on or anything else.

Thirdly, and most importantly is the level of anger coupled with ignorance.  Today I engaged in a conversation with some other jazz fans about Smooth Jazz and Kenny G. I opined that there is sometimes little to separate Fusion and Smooth Jazz, that I once heard a nice rendition of Corcovado that turned out to be by Kenny G and that those who want to restrict others listening to what they think is ‘good’ are not acting wisely.  I finished by suggesting that all jazz is valid and that some of it is brilliant.

The abuse I received, especially from a journalist in the states was unbelievable. He went on to harangue others for giving my tweets weight by retweeting what I had said. Needless to say, his website states some sycophantic bullshit that doesn’t actually say anything.

I think I’d rather spend my time enjoying my own life, thank you very much rather than enjoying the mutual masturbation-cum-pseudo-narcissism that is twitter.

Want to change my mind? Agree with me? Don’t even know what twitter is?
